Create a Film Together
Parent and child team upto learn the basics of film production and video technology while creating a short documentary on a subject of their choosing (e.g. “Our Family” “My Dog” “Our Solar System” etc.). The team develops the concept, shoots and edits the video in preparation for a family screening. Class size is limited to 6 student/parent pairs. Teams are expected to work extensively outside of class.

Introduction to Filmmaking
(for NEW students)
Students learn the craft of narrative filmmaking and how to express their ideas cinematically. This introductory course covers the process of pre-production including story development and breakdown, shooting scripts and scheduling, and the techniques of production including cinematography composition, lens’ and light) and sound recording. Students will learn the post-production process with Final Cut Express professional editing software. The class works extensively on production and editing exercises.

An Introduction to Filmmaking: Part II *
Returning students apply their filmmaking knowledge in a collaborative environment to make a complete short film. The class, rotating in various crew positions, works on a single project with multiple locations and characters, going through the process of pre-production, production, and post-production (editing).
Pre-requisite: Introduction to Film (Part I) or Summer Filmmaking
Camp.

Documentary Filmmaking Part II *
Returning students continue to work on their own individual projects, students choose a subject and create a short documentary. They learn how to organize a project, research, interview, shoot the material, and edit using FinalCut Express. Students must be willing and able to work independently outside of class.

Digital Imaging
Learn the basics of digital photo manipulation with Photoshop! Using their photos, professional photographs and their imagination, students enhance and manipulate the images into a new expression. Each student completes a digital portfolio of their creative work to take home at the end of the semester.

Filmmaking: Independent Study
