Audition Prep
This intensive workshop focuses on the selection and preparation of appropriate material for middle, high school and college auditions. Students learn to establish believable circumstances and sustainable characters in monologues. For an additional fee, students may schedule time with the filmmaking department to have their monologues recorded on VHS or DVD for summer program or college auditions.
Acting for the Camera
This class teaches students to adapt key concepts of acting to the medium of film and television. This workshop explores the various components of camera work (feature films, commercials, sitcoms, one-hour episodics, etc.), addresses the appropriate techniques for each particular genre and allows students to spend time in front of the camera working with exercises and commercial, film and TV scenes.
Voice & Movement
This class is designed to help young actors develop physical and vocal technique and expressiveness to further their ability to create multi-faceted characters and to be relaxed and ready on stage. Students explore exercises, physical improvisation, gesture, walks, relaxation, breath, projection, intensity and range to build these crucial skills.
The Art of Funny!
This workshop is designed to introduce students to the structures and techniques of comedic acting and the different styles of comedy in theatre (from Shakespeare to contemporary theatre). Class covers physical and verbal comedy, as well as timing, stage business and character choices. Permission required, contact mentor.
Directing: A Crash Course!
This workshop is designed for the student who is interested in pursuing directing opportunities, but also for actors who want to be able to translate what a director is saying about their own work. This class explores the overall role of the director, how to break down the action of a play scene-by-scene, the basics of blocking and staging and how to organize the rehearsal process. Permission required, contact mentor.
Musical Theatre Boot Camp
Recommended for the high school student who wants to brush up on his/her musical theatre technique, this intensive workshop will take a fast-paced look at each of the genres of musical theatre, giving equal focus to dance, voice and drama technique.
